favourite idea for antangonist
These antagonists are representing (drug) temptations and would have:
We want them to represent the good, fun, nice appeal of temptations by using white signifying good and helping them stand out from the busy london background ; and a fake OTT smiling face to give the sense of a false friend.
They would look at and follow the protagonist (lead singer) but he would not directly interact with them to show they are thoughts in his head playing on his mind rather than real people.
- white face paint with rosy cheeks and or big red smile
- head to toe in white
- white hair dye - may be hard to do without it being permanent
- white wigs/hair dye
We want them to represent the good, fun, nice appeal of temptations by using white signifying good and helping them stand out from the busy london background ; and a fake OTT smiling face to give the sense of a false friend.
They would look at and follow the protagonist (lead singer) but he would not directly interact with them to show they are thoughts in his head playing on his mind rather than real people.
We were thinking that at the end they would be overcome by collapsing in a pile showing that the music has protected the lead from the dangerous temptation.

Applying Goodwin's and Vernallis' Theories
We thought it would be a good idea to try and apply both Goodwin and Vernallis' theories of music videos to our ideas and see whether we are following them
Goodwin
Vernallis
Goodwin
- We are following the genre characteristics of rock bands by having a performance element to the video with a spontaneous live feel
- We are trying to create a link between the visuals and the lyrics, for example the idea of escaping through your headset
- We plan to edit to the pace of my music, creating a link between the visuals and the track
- The notion of looking will be created through the antagonists watching the lead
- We will include close ups of the band members performing, especially the front man, following the convention of 'money shots'
Vernallis
- The narrative is not necessarily complete and will pose unresolved questions as we will not obviously explain the presence of the antagonists
- The editing will match the beat
- We will break the rules of continuity editing as the lead will jump through space using graphic matches
- We will use extreme shot types
- We will have a running style of framing and movement where the lead goes out of the frame in one shot and comes into frame in another shot
- There will be gaps in the audiences understanding of the diegeses as they will not know how the lead is travelling between locations

Copyright Issues
In an attempt to gain copyright issues for our chosen tracks, we have emailed My Former Self for permission. They are yet to reply as we think due to no longer being signed they don't 'exist' anymore, so there shouldn't be any issues with using their song.

Key References/Inspirations
Past LatymerMedia project: Delirium - Touch Me
Past LatymerMedia Project: The Sporadic - Cubicle
Green Day - American Idiot
- Creates the visual look and feel of the London club scene at night
- We are attempting to provoke the same emotion in our audience be recreating the visual look and feel of London's daytime indie scene
Past LatymerMedia Project: The Sporadic - Cubicle
- Following lead running through London creates a fast paced, visually exciting video
- The audience gain pleasure from recognising the famous London sites
- Our audience will feel proud to know the niche indie locations (e.g. Camden/Roundhouse/Brick Lane)
Green Day - American Idiot
- We were inspired by this video to attempt to use strobe lighting on the performance side of the video
- We tested this out and it worked well but it is very hard to get right so decided to have it as a possibility but not rely on the idea
Target Audience
Core target audience:
- Aged 16-24 mainstream indie/alternative scensters
- Music is their life - read magazines (Kerrang!/NME), enjoy discovering new bands (MySpace/YouTube), discuss lyrics/artists with friends, live gigs concerts with atmosphere
- Look to music for identity - clothes, political statements, iconography
- Specialise into specific style - emo/punk/indie - look to make this style their own but recognisable
- Both genders - audience not defined by societies rules on gender
- Artistic and cultured - appreciate the 'icons' of the indie scene (e.g. concerts halls - Roundhouse)
- Techno-savvy - use internet blogs/forums to discuss, download tracks (iTunes/Spotify), find bands online (Facebook/websites)

Location Test
As a group today (Friday 1st October) we met to explore the possible locations in London's indie scene we could use for our narrative in the music video.
Result:
Result:
- Found the London Underground meant that filming in North/East/South/West is practical as it took minimal time to travel
- Gained photos of all locations we intend to use (recognisable features e.g. the Globe/the Barbican/the Roundhouse and suitable places to shoot)
- In a group meeting to open the day we simplified the idea of the antagonists narrative as London is visually complicated as it is

What Makes a Good Treatment Handout
- Lots of visuals and images of your ideas
- Lists
- Quotes form song to support them
- Technical language to address specific ares
- Remember to clearly mention genre and target audience
- Performance vs narrative
Group Meeting 2 (27/09/10)
Discussed:
Genre:
Costume/Style of band:
- Kerry's proposal for back up track/idea
- Dom's proposal for back up track/idea
- Genre of chosen track
- Costume/styling of our band
Proposals:
- (both accepted as back up tracks)
- Incoporated Kerry's stylised smart/trendy/retro look for the band in main idea (tailored suits with trendy accessories, e.g. waistcoats, trilbys, shades)
- Want to include Dom's idea of stop motion - possibly to liven up the performance side to the video
Genre:
- Indie rock (teenage, soft, mainstream rock, slightly upbeat/pop-y)
- Emo (vocals, guitar style)
- Similar artist image/style/audience appeal as Fall Out Boy, Panic at the Disco
Costume/Style of band:
- Smart, tailored yet trendy
- References from characters such as Doctor Who and bands such as Franz Ferdinand, OK GO and Fall out Boy
- Appeal to the 'scene' teenagers (festival go-ers, alternative, indie)

DYM Feedback to Pitch
- Good track
- More complicated to film in public (things are out of our control)
- Shouldn't just be set on the Tube, needs diversity, have the whole of London to film in
- Followers may not make sense; may be mistaken for muggers or demons (see below for ideas)
